the alchemist

P35-40

In this chapter we learn it takes place in Europe. They reveal that the common language is spanish which means its not in Asia nor America but it could be Africa Europe or south America. The part of the book however that reveals it's placing is the fact that he's trying to travel to Egypt which suggest they are probably in Spain, that would make most sense. Also the religion is christianity and it has a steady economy so it can't be Africa really. Also the main character has been separated from his partner throughout he crowd of the market. He was distracted by a shining sword not for hi but for his partner. As he was trying to price out the sword he looked around and his partner was no where to be found. This part of this story was dramatic irony because it was very clear that one was going to be lost given the size of the crowd and the age of the boys. Thee is also comic relief because after he clearly lost his friend the shop keeper made a witty joke about boys getting lost.
