the alchemist

p40-50

In this reading nothing really happens. There is only dialogue about everyday things in this time period. Things like ill trade you those glasses for something to eat or give me that pouch for directions. This time period seems like a much simple life style because you could get what ever you needed. Everyday you were to wake up only to focus on surviving by trading instead of working to buy things you want. Nobody in this time period was focused on there cloths unless they were rich otherwise they wore the same thing they went to bed in. Everybody new each other and was friendly for the most part. It was as simple as give me that potato sack and ill give you three books. There was a change in mood in this reading from exciting to very boring. Also there was a lot of parallelism because what ever happened in his dreams is starting to happen now.

In this chapter we learn it takes place in Europe. They reveal that the common language is spanish which means its not in Asia nor America but it could be Africa Europe or south America. The part of the book however that reveals it's placing is the fact that he's trying to travel to Egypt which suggest they are probably in Spain, that would make most sense. Also the religion is christianity and it has a steady economy so it can't be Africa really. Also the main character has been separated from his partner throughout he crowd of the market. He was distracted by a shining sword not for hi but for his partner. As he was trying to price out the sword he looked around and his partner was no where to be found. This part of this story was dramatic irony because it was very clear that one was going to be lost given the size of the crowd and the age of the boys. Thee is also comic relief because after he clearly lost his friend the shop keeper made a witty joke about boys getting lost.

The Alchemist

p26-35
Marcus Harris

This book in my opinion has taken a religious turn. God is now playing as a theory in this book for the dreams the sheered has been having. Also the wise king is trying to teach the shepherd a lesson by using a folk tale. The story basically was saying enjoy your surroundings but still keep your eye on your goal. Although you may want to stop to take a break  from chasing your goal you can't. You can't take your eye off the prize, you can't give up on your goal, and you can't change your goal. Also the wise man made sure the shepherd understood that you have to keep your eye on the goal but enjoy the journey to your goal because it will make your goal that much better. I find it ironic that the boy left home to chase a girl but is now going after treasure in Egypt. I also find the main character oddly a static character because his personality hasn't changed much since the beginning.
